California School Immunization Law

California Health and Safety Code: Sections 120325-120375:

Under these statutes, children in California are required to receive certain immunizations in order to attend public and private elementary and secondary schools, child care centers, family day care homes, nursery schools, day nurseries, and developmental centers. Schools, child care centers, and family child care homes are required to enforce immunization requirements, maintain immunization records of all children enrolled, and submit reports.

The California Legislature passed and on June 29, 2015 Governor Jerry Brown signed California Senate Bill 277 into law (Governor's Letter). The law, which does not take effect until July 1, 2016, removes the personal belief vaccine exemption for children attending daycare and public and private schools.

Allergy Free Zone

We have several students at Brookside Elementary School that have food allergies to peanut/nut products.  For some students, any exposure to peanuts/nuts or peanut butter may cause a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment.  As a school we have taken precautions to limit exposure to these allergens for the safety and well-being of our students.

A table in the eating area has been designated as an allergy free zone.  Peanut /nut products will not be sold in the cafeteria.  Some children bring their lunch to school.  If  peanut/nuts are brought to school your child will not be able to sit at the allergy free table.  If your child has eaten peanuts/nuts before coming to school, we are requesting that your child’s hands and face be thoroughly washed before entering the  school.

We appreciate your support.

Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Student Safety Reminders!

 Parents and Students:

We would like to remind everyone of some general safety tips as students are coming to and from school.  We encourage students to call 911 immediately if they feel in danger as they are traveling to and from school.

  • Students should always be aware of their surrounding, especially when walking or waiting alone
  • Do not walk alone but walk in groups of two or more
  • Never get into a vehicle with a stranger-fight, shout, scream, kick, bite, run and tell
  • Never take anything a stranger offer you-do not accept candy, food or money from a stranger
  • Do not walk alone in the dark
  • Stay away from lonely places-do not go alone into deserted buildings, empty parking lots or places where there are few people around
  • Remain on school grounds during school hours
  • Immediately tell responsible adults/school officials about any suspicious activities or people encountered to or from school and give as many details as possible

Student safety is a top priority in Beaumont Unified School District and we appreciate your help in creating a safe learning environment and community.

District Goals and Curriculum

Goal #1

BUSD will provide an optimum learning and working environment by employing highly qualified certificated and classified employees, maintaining the district facilities, and providing an instructional program to support 21st century learning skills.

Goal #2

BUSD will implement the CCSS by designing the Units of Study with district stakeholders for Mathematics, English Language Arts/English Language Development, and Science, Social Studies, and Technical Subjects in three phases: Design, Implementation, and Review/Revision.

Goal #3

BUSD will ensure a viable 21st century learning curriculum for all students that includes full access and success in college and career preparatory courses.

Goal #4

BUSD will ensure a positive climate and school culture for students by providing opportunities for them to build positive relationships with staff members and to access resources from the greater Beaumont community.

The Beaumont Unified School District has undertaken an ambitious multi-year project to develop

Units of Study aligned to the new State Standards.  Rather than solely relying on static printed-only material, the Units of Study includes robust online and electronic resources, ongoing opportunities for students to collaborate with each other, and project-based learning opportunities.

Brookside Elementary School received the California School Boards Association Golden Bell Award for their "Tuesday Take or Trade" program.

The Golden Bell Award promotes excellence by recognizing outstanding programs in school districts and county offices throughout California.  The "Tuesday Take or Trade" provides gently used children's clothing, school supplies, books, and accessories.  Customers can donate clothing that is no longer used and/or take what is needed.  The "Take and Trade" is arranged in a boutique style, and has boy's and girl's clothing ranging from size 3T to young adults.

The program is managed by student volunteers and adult volunteers, Trish and Kim Murrill.  If you are interested or would like to find out more, please contact Brookside's Kindergaten Teacher,Terry Carrizosa (tcarrizosa@beaumontusd.k12.ca.us).

SARC - School Accountability Report Card

Since November 1988, state law has required all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. A similar requirement is also contained in the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. For additional information regarding the SARC, click here.
